Paths forward

Support shaped around each family

Each family receives support based on their circumstances, needs, and goals. The following stories reflect different ways that children and caregivers have used Deirdre's House services.

Forensic interviews and counseling

Finding safety and returning to familiar routines

A young child came to Deirdre's House after experiencing sexual abuse. In a child-friendly interview room, a specially trained professional helped the child share what had happened in a safe, developmentally appropriate setting.

The child and the child's parents later received counseling in Spanish. Together, they learned ways to process difficult emotions, support one another, and move forward as a family. Deirdre's House also helped the parents prepare victim impact statements for the court process.

After reaching their counseling goals, the family completed services. The child was able to return to familiar activities and interests with the continued support of the parents.

Outcome: Counseling goals completed

Family counseling

Healing together as a family

After a child experienced sexual abuse, the child and a parent came to Deirdre's House for support in Spanish.

The parent was experiencing intense guilt and emotional distress. Through counseling, both the child and the parent developed healthier ways to process what had happened. The parent was better able to support the child's recovery while also receiving care for personal emotional needs.

Both family members reached their counseling goals and returned to their regular routines with new tools for managing difficult emotions.

Outcome: Family counseling completed

Individual and group counseling

Moving forward with confidence

A young survivor came to Deirdre's House after experiencing sexual abuse by someone known to the family.

Through individual and group counseling, the survivor developed healthy tools for processing trauma and planning for the future. With continued support and personal determination, the student earned a full college scholarship and is now thriving in college.
